Event Details

Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) invites you to attend a training entitled “Power Up: Strategies for Supervisors to Prevent Employee Burnout and Build Support,” which will be held on Wednesday, March 5, from 12-1 p.m. ET via Zoom. This virtual session will be presented by Becky Ketron from Montgomery County Alcohol, Drug Addiction & Mental Health Services.

In a recent Healthy Minds Study Faculty/Staff Survey, 64% of faculty reported “feeling burned out because of work.” Women, in particular, were the most inclined to agree with the statement, “In the past 12 months, I have felt overwhelmed by all I had to do.”

Higher education personnel are faced not only with the stress of their normal, everyday work, but they are also dealing with the increase in student mental and emotional distress. Added to this burden is the uncertainty of higher education’s future, including budget and personnel cuts, and the expectation that remaining employees will have to assume the responsibilities left by coworkers who depart, either by retirement or elimination of roles.

During this session, we will identify the root causes of burnout and talk about a variety of strategies a supervisor can implement to create and maintain a healthy and supportive work environment.

    Councils & Committees

SOCHE is dedicated to advancing higher education through active collaboration, resource and knowledge building, and effective professional development programs. To accomplish this, SOCHE administers 16 active Councils and Committees. The purpose of a SOCHE Council or Committee is to provide an opportunity for representatives from higher education to be a resource for one another, share information and best practices, identify common challenges, and, ultimately, broaden awareness of the resources, services, and activities in higher education. SOCHE is also dependent upon the Councils and Committees for substantial input on annual professional development programs.
