About the Lunch & Learn: A Mindful Approach to Conflict Management

“If two people are thinking alike, you may be sure that one of them is doing all the thinking.” – Lyndon B. Johnson

Conflict can be a sign of healthy disagreement and diverse thinking, but how do you manage consistent and disruptive conflict with a co-worker? Join Dr. Doreen Larson, president of Edison State Community College, for another SOCHE virtual lunch and learn, “A Mindful Approach to Conflict Management,” on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 12 p.m.

Conflict in the workplace is often avoided or downplayed leading to ineffective teams or even loss of employees. This workshop will provide options of practical and effective approaches to manage conflict in a team or on a one-to-one basis. Dr. Larson will present a menu of approaches to use in addressing workplace conflict. Grab your lunch and join us to find out which tools are the right for you.

Participants will:

  • Define a mindful approach to workplace conflict
  • Develop awareness of the key characteristics of conflict scenarios
  • Review a list conflict “tools” that are effective ways to manage and not ignore conflict
  • Create a personal plan to implement some selected conflict tools

Councils & Committees

SOCHE is dedicated to advancing higher education through active collaboration, resource and knowledge building, and effective professional development programs. To accomplish this, SOCHE administers 16 active Councils and Committees. The purpose of a SOCHE Council or Committee is to provide an opportunity for representatives from higher education to be a resource for one another, share information and best practices, identify common challenges, and, ultimately, broaden awareness of the resources, services, and activities in higher education. SOCHE is also dependent upon the Councils and Committees for substantial input on annual professional development programs.
